‘Tis the Season

It always happens at Christmastime. I don’t know why. The rest of the year, my house is usually a vomit-free zone, but there’s something about Christmas that makes stomach flu viruses (virusi?) look at Casa Rich and say, “It’s the promised land, boys.”

What’s the old saying? Two times is a coincidence, three times a trend? We’re entering trend territory, although the worst was Christmas two years ago. I’ll save you the details, let us just say I didn’t sleep at all that night and no force on earth could ever get me to serve ham ever, ever again. My father-in-law was visiting, and a few days later had a trip to the Galapagos Islands, and they almost didn’t let him go for fear he would bring a plague among the land.

And now, once again, as if 2006 is a year not to be forgotten but topped, it has begun. To save you the worst of it, I will just give you the highlights of tonight’s dialogue:

“What happened, Cecilia?”

“Do we have any rubber gloves? Perhaps a hazmat suit?”

“Yes, sweetie, you absolutely have to take a shower.”

“It’s like the exorcist in here.”

“We’re going to need to run this laundry twice. Maybe three times.”

And so it begins. Merry puking Christmas.

We’re apparently thinking of starting a Christmas pneumonia tradition, and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself until I read your blog. Thanks for the shot of perspective. So sorry your people are ill. Happy Sprite and Pretzels Day.

I know I’m late but I’ve been busy.

Merry Christmas, Happy New year. Did Santa bring you a bunch of buckets? Sounds like you need that, lysol and a couple of mops.

Surprisingly, I did not get sick this year. I usually do, honking and barking like I’ve swallowed a duck whole. And every time I wish I’d purchased stock in Kleenix.

Here’s to an influenza free New Year.

Hope everyone’s feeling a bit better.
