7 Things I Know About… Cooking
Okay, kids, it’s another installment of 7 Things. Don’t forget to leave more suggestions in the comments – and really stump me. The harder the topic, the greater the fun.
As for the writing-related suggestions, I’ll see if I can’t get them in for an episode of Will Write for Wine.
Now – 7 Things I Know About Cooking:

1. You must be willing to burn, over-season, under-season and in all other ways ruin a dish in order to ever get good at it. This actually applies to everything, but since it applies to cooking, I’m using it here as well.
2. The fresher the ingredients, the better the dish.
3. Even if something’s really bad, your husband will probably still eat it. At least mine will. I don’t need a dog, I’ve got Fish.
4. It may be possible to put too much garlic in something, but I haven’t hit my limit yet.
5. Finding one good dish you like and practicing it until you do it well can do wonders for your confidence.
6. Setting a pot of boiling water on fire can also do wonders for your confidence, but in the opposite direction.
7. Sometimes, it’s okay to just order pizza. Or serve Cheerios for dinner.
All right – that’s what I know about cooking. Now come on – give me a challenge!

GRATZ on Selling Dogs and Goddesses. I would be VERY interestedto hear 7 things you know about COLLABORATING.

How about 7 things about stalker fans? No? Alright then, 7 things about pineapples/(why yes, I did just look in my freezer at the two whole containers of frozen pineapple for smoothies. How did you guess) Too strange? & things about Pilates balls? Mayan calendars? Christmas cactus? Compressed air? (who in the world ever thought to put air in a can, then sell it??) Okay, done looking around my living room. Go. Write 7 things about each.
Perfecting a dish is also nice because you have something to whip out when the inlaws come to visit. They taste that, think it’s typical of your cooking, and declare you an excellent cook. All you have to do is say “thank you” and hold in the laughter.
How about 7 things you know about chocolate? Or husbands. Or kids. Or reading. Beaches. Weather. Scrapbooking. the Internet. Accidents. Cruises. Alaska.
There. That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.
Uuugh! A _derth_ of blogs, then you go and upload 4 in one day. Or something like that. Actually, I’m going to put in another plug for fish, because I know nothing about it, having grown up in land-locked Chicagoland, and LENT is approaching. I have it on good authority that you can cook at least one good fish recipie. My knowlege of fish is Tunafish on Toast. (Recipie follows)
One big can of Tunafish.
One Can on Cream of Mushroom soup.
Toast (Kinda burnt, and if your mother is feeling genreous, spread with a little butter.)
Mix Tuna and Soup in a pot until it is pink and the consistancy of oatmeal.
Serve over toast (best if said toast has cooled so the butter won’t actually melt _into_ the toast).
Enjoy you Lent. No, wait. DON”T enjoy Lent.

7 Things I Know About Hawaii. Why yes, I do just need to book my trip and get on with it. But still.
Julie – My mom used to make that with corned beef (from the pre-packaged plastic packs) instead of tuna and call it chipped beef on toast. It sounds awful, but it’s definitely comfort food.
And, um, since when is Chicago-land land-locked? I have a vague recollection of some large lake to the east.
Just sayin’.
